ESTATE OF MAS JANEIL
The wealth of Languedoc Terroir
François Lurton
Mas Janeil is located on steep limestone garrigue-covered slopes in the heart of the Agly Valley. Our estate produces fine wine in an area with a rich history and atypical terroirs where tradition and innovation are combined with precision and strength, reliability and friendliness.

Discovering wines from our terroir
In 1996, captivated by the Agly Valley and its outstanding landscapes, the two Lurton brothers decided to try their hand at making wine there, and leased a vineyard - Mas Janeil, with plots situated between the communes of Maury and Tautavel. Soon thereafter, the estate's plots of old Grenache vines confirmed their potential - as well as their differences. Indeed, there is a wide range of different soils due to the fact that the Mas Janeil vineyards straddle a geological fault. For instance, the soil at the foot of Château de Quéribus consists of limestone and granite, whereas the schist in the Pas de la Mule plot is quite dense. After leasing the land for 10 years, François Lurton bought Mas Janeil in 2008 and built a new winery, partially reinstituting the former system.
